The national official of education Number 232/U/2000 determines the curriculum of Karawitan Department in Denpasar according to the Pedoman Penyusunan Kurikulum Pendidikan Tinggi (Organization for Higver Education Curriculum) and Penilaian Hasil Belajar Mahasiswa (student’s learning evaluation) and the decision of the National official of Education Number 045/4/2002 regarding the Kurikulum Pendidikan Higher Education Curriculum) and the Surat Edaran (circular letter( notified by Dirjen Dikti Concerning the Kurikulum Perbasis Kompetensi (KBK) or Curriculum Basic Competence.
Based on KBK, the semester couse consists of stings, 1) mata Kuliah Pengembangan Kepribaddian (MPK); 2) Mata Kuliah Keahlian dan Keterampilan (MKKK); 3) Mata Kuliah Keahlian Berkarya (MKKB); 4) Mata Kuliah Perilaku Berkarya (MKPB), 5)Mata Kuliah Berkehidupan Bersama (MKBB). These 5 Semester courses help to for the students profile as they become university graduates and prepare to enter the working community. These include the 4 pillers of education founded by UNESCO. These four pillars are as follows: learn to know, learn to act, learn to live together and learn to become someone. These pillars are in corporate into the program through theory, practice, social interaction and individual creation in 2003/2004 the new curriculum (KBK) introduced & opened two main interests, interest in creation (in this case composition) and interest in theory (thesis).
The curriculum is followed in every class through the semester. Classes are conducted six days a week from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Aside from classroom learning, practical courses, in the field are held as needed. The semester course schedule is enclosed with this document.
Karawitan Department curriculum is organized by the chairman, secretary and several instructors. The curriculum materials consist of 40% national curriculum 60% local. Evaluations are had routinely every five years; however they can be done any time to assess student’s development in knowledge and skills if necessary. In examination of the curriculum process, one can see that an additional course is still necessary in order to accommodate new trend in knowledge (such as technological advances).
It is Karawitan Department ; intention that the application of this curriculum help to increase general competence and the good of the graduates, so that they will be able to achieve high standards and succeed in the working world accordingly.
The standard competence of Karawitan Department graduates is a balance between creation and theory. In addition to this, graduates are equipped with standard technological skills and multimedia according to the needs of the market. The main emphasis in the program is placed on the creation of music. However, the graduates also need to have skills in technology and theory in order to support their area of emphasis.
Bali’s economy depends heavily on international tourism, thus the graduates net only need complex skills mastered in the artistic tradition (muatan local), composition and theory, but also in foreign languages (primarily English). Often foreigners come to Bali not just as normal tourist, but as persons learned in artistic culture to engage in artistic collaboration, or hear local Balinese musicians. Many things are necessary in such a situation. Good English skills, an increase in local capability and management are necessary in such an atmosphere. English skills could be developed and honed through better English teaching facilities.
Karawitan Department fosters a special quality of music creation which can be seen by the amount of regional, national and international cooperation students graduates receive. These cooperative relationships are maintained through education and teaching, concerts, art collaboration and music aeration many other things. These relations ships are actualized by in change of staff in outside of the country. Often experts will come from other planes to give lectures or workshops at ISI Denpasar, especially to Karawitan Department .
